Weekend clipper race IJsselmeer

09/11-10-2026

Enkhuizen Klipperrace on a traditional sailing ship
Once a year, the unique and spectacular Enkhuizer Klipperrace takes place. During this special weekend, dozens of historic sailing ships compete for victory on the IJsselmeer. One of our beautiful brown fleet ships, the Vriendentrouw, will once again be participating in this two-day regatta this year — and you can be there!
Step aboard and experience what it's like to sail on a sailing ship during a real race. Under the guidance of an experienced crew, you will help out on deck, operate the sails, and feel the power of wind and water as the flat-bottomed boats skim across the water. This is flat-bottomed sailing at its best — pure, traditional, and full of adrenaline.

The IJsselmeer, the perfect sailing spot
The Klipperrace takes place from Enkhuizen and is sailed across the vast IJsselmeer. The event begins with a spectacular anchor start, in which all ships are at anchor and hoist their sails simultaneously as soon as the starting signal sounds. It is an impressive sight, which can be easily followed from the quay in Enkhuizen. From there, you can see dozens of flat-bottomed boats and clippers competing elegantly but powerfully with each other. Enkhuizen buzzes with activity around the races. The harbor is pleasantly busy, visitors can admire the ships up close and enjoy the maritime atmosphere.

Who is it for?
Whether you are an avid sailor or just want to try something new and different, this is the moment to step aboard the Vriendentrouw — everyone can join in! The regular crew will calmly explain everything and ensure that every participant can actively help out on board. This makes the Enkhuizer Klipperrace not only an exciting competition, but also an unforgettable experience full of teamwork, adventure, and fun.

The Enkhuizer Klipperrace is therefore not only a sporting challenge, but also a living tribute to the rich sailing tradition of the Netherlands and flat-bottomed sailing on the IJsselmeer.
