Sailing & hiking Zuiderzee-trail
Sailing and Walking Zuiderzee-trail:
Discover the Netherlands, a land of water. Experience the Zuiderzeepad from both sides in this wonderful combination of walking and sailing. A combination of historic, picturesque towns and unspoiled nature. You will stay on a beautiful two-masted schooner with lots of character and a warm interior. The skipper and sailor will ensure a safe journey, and the cook will provide excellent, healthy meals and, if necessary, packed lunches for your walks. If a walk is too far for you or you feel like staying on the ship, that is of course also possible.
Friesland and the Wadden Sea:
During this trip, you will experience a wide variety of environments. On the IJsselmeer, you will sail long distances across open water, enjoy panoramic views, and visit charming historic towns. The landscape is impressive and constantly changing. On the Wadden Sea, you will experience a completely different world: a unique UNESCO World Heritage Site with opportunities to walk on the seabed and feel the tranquility of nature. You will discover areas rich in birdlife, fresh sea air, and beautiful walking trails. This varied sailing and walking experience shows you the Netherlands at its best.
Who is it for?
This trip is ideal for anyone who loves nature, is looking for a different kind of vacation in their own country, and wants to enjoy an unforgettable experience on land and water. Whether you have sailed before or have never held a rope, it makes no difference. Our crew will welcome you aboard in a friendly manner, so you will quickly feel at home on board and have a great time.
Program:
Sunday: You are welcome aboard the Vliegende Hollander in Lemmer from 8:00 p.m. We will get to know each other, the crew will introduce themselves, and the skipper will tell you more about the ship and the program.
Monday: After breakfast, we will cast off at 10:00 a.m. and head for Enkhuizen, where we will arrive around 3:00 p.m. You will enjoy a beautiful 7 km walk along the city walls and the Zuiderzee Museum.
Tuesday: Today, a longer route is on the program: 24 km from Enkhuizen to Medemblik, along dikes with beautiful views of the water and landscape. In Medemblik, you will board again and we will sail on to Den Oever on the former island of Wieringen, through the lock to the Wadden Sea (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Wednesday: At low tide, you can go mudflat walking under the guidance of the skipper—a unique experience! Afterwards, you will walk about 10 km across Wieringen along dikes, ditches, and polders. At the end of the afternoon, we will sail to Makkum on the other side of the IJsselmeer.
Thursday: After breakfast, you will walk 15 km along the Frisian coast towards Workum, through bird-rich nature reserves outside the dykes. In Workum, you can board the boat or continue walking to Stavoren (an extra 15 km). We will then sail on to Stavoren.
Friday: The last day. We hoist the sails and enjoy the vastness of the IJsselmeer one last time before returning to Lemmer.
