This fall, experience the peace, space, and beauty of Lauwersmeer during a relaxing day of sailing aboard the Middelsee. Once the summer crowds have subsided, Lauwersmeer reveals a different side of itself: vast skies, stunning fall colors, a variety of birds, and a soothing silence. Together with a small group of like-minded guests, you’ll enjoy a fully catered day aboard a comfortable and charming sailing ship.
Sailing on Lauwersmeer—enjoying peace and nature
During this special day trip, you’ll discover the vast Lauwersmeer National Park from the water. At 10:00 a.m., you’ll be welcomed aboard in Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen with coffee, tea, and a treat. Then we’ll hoist the sails together and set out.
Along the way, there’s plenty of time to enjoy nature, the fresh air, and the ever-changing scenery. If you’d like, you can actively help with sailing, but of course, you’re also welcome to relax on deck with a hot drink. Around noon, we’ll serve a fresh lunch on board. Depending on the weather and conditions, we’ll make a short stop at a small island in the Lauwersmeer along the way.
At the end of the afternoon, we set course back to Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, where we’ll moor again around 6:00 p.m.
Prefer a full weekend getaway? Overnight stays are available before and after the trip.
Would you like to start the day in a more relaxed way or simply enjoy the atmosphere on board a little longer? Then you can book an overnight stay with breakfast on board before and/or after the sailing day. This way, you can easily turn this day trip into a complete getaway in the beautiful Lauwersmeer region.
Open to everyone—no sailing experience required
Whether you’re an experienced sailor or stepping aboard for the first time, this day trip is suitable for everyone. Our experienced crew will be happy to tell you more about the boat and the area and introduce you to the basics of sailing. Of course, you’re also welcome to just sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet, nature, and the view.
This sailing day is ideal for solo travelers, couples, friends, or small groups looking for a special day outdoors in one of the Netherlands’ most beautiful nature reserves.
