Action and Relaxation:
Your stay aboard the Sterrenwind is all about action and relaxation. Action on deck as you work together to sail the ship to the next port. And after a day with the fresh wind in your hair, you can relax on deck or below deck in the bright, spacious saloon.
Families and groups of friends and family immediately feel at home on board. The light, spacious saloon can accommodate all guests. And in the large, open kitchen, you can easily prepare meals for a larger group, from nutritious stews to culinary delights.
The high railing and large seating area on deck make the ship suitable for families with smaller children.
Smaller children can also help out on deck under supervision. And if you let us know the weight of the children before departure, we will have children's life jackets on board.
The variety of activities, relaxation, picturesque water sports villages and the company on board all combine to create a unique experience for young and old.
Sailing on the Sterrenwind:
The Sterrenwind's home port in the summer is Lemmer. From Lemmer, you can go in any direction: sailing on the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea and the Frisian inland waterways. Charming coastal towns such as Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Medemblik and Workum are possible destinations for a weekend trip. During longer trips (>3 days), weather permitting, you can sail to the Wadden Sea and moor at one of the islands.
The lakes and canals in Friesland also offer a varied sailing area. Typical Frisian water sports towns such as Heeg, Sneek or Grou offer conviviality and variety. The Sterrenwind can also be used for active sailing on the Frisian lakes.
Layout:
The large windows at the rear of the saloon and the large glass hatch make the saloon extremely light. The open galley (kitchen) is equipped with a 6-burner gas stove with oven, two tabletop refrigerators, a tabletop freezer and all the necessary pots and pans. In terms of equipment, you can easily prepare culinary delights here. If you are not so gifted in the culinary arts, we are happy to offer you full catering by our kitchen prince or princess.
The saloon has a small bar with a beer tap and a table-top refrigerator for delicious cold drinks. The four large tables with benches along the wall and chairs can seat 28 guests. There is a music system. The ten multi-person cabins are spacious. All cabins have a washbasin with hot and cold water. There is also a power socket for charging mobile phones and cameras in every cabin.
History of the Sterrenwind
The ship was built in 1909 at the Hendrik Appelo shipyard in Zwartsluis under the name Rijn-Zeevaart. Between 1943 and 1945, the ship sailed for the Food Supply Service, transporting sugar beets, potatoes and vegetables to Amsterdam. The cargo was mostly stored in the open on deck so that the population could help themselves to food. In the 1950s and 1960s, the ship sailed as a cargo ship without masts on Dutch waters. In 1996, the ship was converted into a sailing charter ship. The current owner bought the ship in 2018, renovated it and named it after a natural phenomenon, Sterrenwind.
