Sailing on the Onverwacht:
Let yourself be surprised during a wonderful sailing vacation on this sturdy clipper. Personal attention is one of the most important features, so you can count on being pampered! That doesn’t mean there won’t be any sailing, though. From its home port of Makkum, the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea are within easy reach, so get ready for active enjoyment and true relaxation. On board, you’ll find cozy accommodations where everyone feels right at home.
Sustainability
The Onverwacht holds a GreenKey certification. This means the ship strives to keep its ecological footprint as small as possible, including through sustainable improvements to the vessel, eco-friendly laundry and cleaning products, and by using wind power as much as possible for propulsion.
Crew
The crew of the Onverwacht consists of the married couple Hans and Maria. They have been the proud owners of the Onverwacht for over 15 years. Hans and Maria will do everything in their power to ensure their guests have a relaxing, active, and unique time aboard their ship. They will show you the most beautiful spots on the IJsselmeer and/or the Wadden Sea. From Makkum, a weekend trip to Vlieland or Terschelling, including beaching if conditions permit, is certainly a possibility.
History
The Onverwacht is a clipper barge. As the name suggests, a clipper barge has the bow of a clipper and a full, rounded stern. The ship was built in Zwartsluis in 1908 and used as a cargo ship. Later, it was used as a houseboat. In the 1990s, a group of skippers from Zwartsluis purchased the Onverwacht and converted it into a passenger ship. The current owners are only the third owners of the Onverwacht.
