Passion at Sea
Arthur is at the helm of the Isis. He has been sailing the seas as a crew member for many years and therefore has a wealth of experience in sailing, the Wadden Sea and life on board.
His love of the water also ties in with his former work as a photographer. For years, he captured journeys, landscapes and the nautical world through his lens. With the Isis, he can now experience that passion in a different way: out on the water with you.
Arthur is delighted to welcome you on board and share his experience with you. Whether you want to actively help with the sailing or simply enjoy the peace and the surroundings, you’re very welcome on the Isis.
Sailing with character
With a length of over 30 metres and her elegant lines, the Isis is an impressive vessel. She is a historic sailinge barge with excellent sailing characteristics. The sheets are handled manually, whilst the main sail halyards and leeboards are operated electrically.
On deck, you’ll find a spacious cockpit where you can sit in sheltered comfort. The sun and rain awning ensures you can stay outside comfortably even in changeable weather. Whilst sailing, you can lend a hand to the crew, but of course you’re also free to simply enjoy the wind, the water and the scenery.
The Isis can accommodate up to 35 people on a day trip and 24 people on a multi-day trip. There are nine cabins: six double cabins and three four-berth cabins.
Comfort you can feel
Although the Isis is a vessel with a rich history, you don’t have to compromise on comfort. The warm mahogany panelling gives the saloon an atmospheric and luxurious feel. The central heating also keeps things cosy indoors. You’ll find an on-board library and a music system with Bluetooth.
The galley is also spacious and fully equipped, with a six-burner hob, oven, fridge and freezer. An air fryer, rice cooker and sandwich toaster make your stay even more convenient. And, of course, there’s a beer tap on board.
The cabins are equipped with heating, 230V sockets and a washbasin. Almost every cabin has a cupboard for your personal belongings. Duvets and towels are included, so you can set off on your journey in comfort and without too much luggage. There are two toilets and two showers on board.
A ship with a story
The story of the Isis begins in 1892. She was built at the famous Van Duyvendijk shipyard in Lekkerkerk, a yard renowned for its exceptional sailing ships. Since then, the Isis has seen many generations of skippers and crews and is one of the oldest clipper ships still sailing in the world.
Now a new chapter is beginning. The Isis will continue to sail from her familiar home port of Harlingen and is joining the FRIESEVLOOT. On to new adventures.
A voyage on the Isis is therefore more than just a trip across the water. You step aboard a ship with character, history and sailing heritage – and get the chance to experience a little of that for yourself.
