Sailing on the Beantra
On the Beantra, the comfort of the guests is paramount. The ship and the skipper are perfectly capable of sailing in a sporty and comfortable manner. The shallow draft makes the ship very suitable for adventurous sailing trips on the Wadden Sea.
During your trip on this traditional sailing ship, you can cycle on Vlieland, visit Ecomare on Texel, and relax on Terschelling. Enthusiasts can also use this flat-bottomed ship to go for a walk on the mudflats.
The IJsselmeer also offers a varied sailing area. Historic harbor towns such as Enkhuizen, Medemblik, and Hoorn offer a beautiful backdrop for a pleasant stay. The crew of the Beantra
Your skipper and host on the Beantra is Otte Groenhof. Together with the sailor, he ensures an unforgettable experience on board. Otte enjoys the feeling of freedom that sailing gives him and the conversations with the guests. Together with the group, he sets the course and determines the destination for the day.
Layout
The saloon has five tables with benches. There is enough space for 28 people to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. The high ceiling, windows, and large deck hatches give a spacious feeling.
The large open kitchen is ideal for offering a delicious buffet or for cooking for a large group of guests. The kitchen is equipped with an 8-burner gas stove, a large refrigerator, and a Bravilor coffee machine. Next to the kitchen is the beer tap system. The sanitary facilities and sleeping quarters are located in the bow. Eight double and four triple cabins can accommodate up to 28 people. The cabins all have either a porthole or a deck hatch. There is sufficient space under the beds to store travel bags.
In the hallway, there are 2 toilets, 2 showers, and 2 shower/toilet combinations.
History of the Beantra
In 1898, the Beantra was launched under the name Dankbaarheid at the De Korte brothers' shipyard in Moerdijk. Between 1902 and 1950, the ship was lengthened twice to increase its cargo capacity. This cargo included sugar beets, grain, sand, and cement. In the early 1950s, the Dankbaarheid was sold and sailed from Ooltgensplaat with cargo across the waters of South Holland, Zeeland, and Belgium. In 1980, the river clipper was sold to a skipper in Den Bommel and renamed Beantra.
In 1994, the ship was taken out of cargo service, shortened to its original dimensions, and rebuilt based on the original drawings.
