Press release: Frisian ships for charter in own cooperative

Stavoren – This week, twenty-two Frisian ships for charter on the IJsselmeer- and Wad-coast, have united under the ‘skipperscompact' named FrieseVloot. Clippers, barges and a schokker serve the still growing market for sailing holidays and group trips.

Last Saturday on May 16 the new cooperative presented itself in Stavoren by hoisting the compact-flag.

FrieseVloot puts the emphasis on the sailing adventure on the Waddensea and the Frisian lakes, according to the requirements of "good seamanship". This includes the prevention of nature's disturbance and pollution. Until recently, the skippers of FrieseVloot organized their bookings through a national bureau. Now they have their own office in Stavoren from where their customers, often Dutch or German, are being served.

The big ships for charter do not yet suffer from the economic crisis, according to the initiators. Right now, the number of reservations is the same as last year. The annual turnover of the independent, cooperative companies is between 1.5 and 2 million euro. However, the customers seem to be increasingly critical to the quality and the handling of passengers. These things were reasons for some to separate and work on individually.
